SANDRET hasn't been firing on all cylinders of late, but is a solid 110 horse when things fall right. Today's drop back to a mile could help the selection's cause, and the more the Doncaster track dries out between now and post time the better he should go. Pencilled in odds of 16-1 must be seen as yet another positive. Second top-rated La Trinidad is worthy of mention too, as track, trip and ground will suit, plus, he is  still going forward.

Doncaster 1-50 Group 2 (Class 1) 7f

LTO Speed: State Of Rest 99 Devious Company 88 Chindit 84

STATE OF REST looks big at best odds of 20-1 for this seven-runner Group 2 event, as he is the best and most consistent clocker in the line up, and a proven performer over a galloping seven furlongs on good ground. Not disgraced over a trip short of his best at Naas latest, when finishing with plenty of purpose. Four of the selection's six rival's were winners last time out, but none have posted speed ratings that match those usually required for this level of competition.

ORNATE has a consistency problem, but can be very good on his day. Clear top on the clock for this year's 22-runner Portland Handicap, courtesy of a recent placed effort in a Group 2 contest at Goodwood, I don't think it's too outrageous to suggest that he looks big on the best odds list at 25-1 with several firms at the time of writing. At the very least he looks worthy of an each-way play to modest stakes.

MOLATHAM got put in his place by Group 1 rivals at Deauville latest, but did post a career-best speed rating of 121 when landing a Group 3 event at Ascot on his previous outing. Back down a notch in class today, and a proven performer over this track and trip, it will come as no surprise if this 3yo son of Night Of Thunder gets back to winning ways today, while his best odds of around 6-1 can be considered more than fair.

BERKSHIRE ROCCO finished a well held fourth to Pylefdriver in the Group 2 Voltigeur Stakes at York last month, so has much to do this afternoon to turn the tables on that rival. However, let's not forget that the York race wasn't strongly run, and that they have a fair bit further to travel in this afternoon Pertemps St Leger. I also like the fact that Andrew Balding's charge has Shirocco sitting close up in his pedigree, as this stallion is often an influence for improvement with age and race experience. Generally available at odds of 33-1, and well clear on the clock to boot with the absence of English King, he will do for me as a solid each-way play.

STATE PATROL (nap) failed to get competitive in a six furlong contest at Naas last month, yet stayed on well enough to finish eighth to Sweet Gardinia (form solid), and post a career-best speed rating of 93. A juvenile son of high class miler Zoffany, today's step back up in trip is sure to help the selection's cause, as will the faster underfoot conditions. A 12-1 shot with bet365 at the time of writing, those odds or bigger should be taken.

Doncaster 5-15 Handicap (Class 2) 12f

 Horse  Best  Lto  2nd  3rd  4th  5th  6th
 Mankayan  104  104  78  90  79  --  --
 Toronto  98  82  98  76  75  74  --
 Al Muffrih  97  97  72  82  --  --  --

 Away He Goes  88  74  67  88  --  --  --

LTO Speed: Mankayan 104 Al Muffrih 97 Toronto 82

MANKAYAN (nb) rates clear top on the clock for this five-runner middle-distance handicap, courtesy of his second to Frankel's Storm in a 12 furlong contest at Pontefract last month. Ultra consistent this season, effective on any ground, and a proven winner over today's track and trip, the selection has all of the major angles covered here and must go well again.
