LTO Speed: Equitation 114 Arecibo 110 Show Stealer 110

I'm going to give a big shout to EQUITATION (nap) in this 22-runner sprint handicap, as he posted a premier LTO speed rating of 114 when scooting home at Ascot last week, and will have similar conditions prevailing this afternoon. Granted, the selection is up a couple of notches in class today, but as a late closing type could come good again with a predicted strong pace to shoot at. Generally available at 16-1 on the best odds list at the time of writing, this in-form gelding is also being offered up at a decent price.

Doncaster 2-25 Group 2 (Class 1) 7f

 Shine So Bright  117  78  98  117  --  --  --

 Sir Dancealot  107  72  106  99  100  107  --

LTO Speed: Turjomaan 113 Breton Rock 88 Shine So Bright 78

SHINE SO BRIGHT has plenty in his favour in this six-runner Group 2 contest, as he rates top on the clock with a figure of 117, was a winner in this grade at York last time out, and has ticks in the important boxes marked track type (galloping), trip and ground. Very lightly raced this season, the colt could easily take another step forward today and follow up, while his best odds of 5-2 with William Hill at the time of writing should be taken.

 Royal Crusade  85  85  --  --  --  --  --

LTO Speed: Juan Elcano 97 Threat 93 Fort Myers 89

THREAT finished strongly when landing the Group 2 Gimcrack Stakes at York three weeks ago, and as a son of Guineas winner Footstepsinthesand looks sure to appreciate today's step up to seven furlongs. Fully effective on a galloping track and fast turf, everything looks to be in place for a follow up success, but unfortunately this is echoed in his early tissue odds of 10-11.

Doncaster 3-35 Group 1 (Class 1) 14f

 Horse  Best  Lto  2nd  3rd  4th  5th  6th

 Western Australia  88  --  65  39  73  88  (105)

LTO Speed: Logician 114 Technician 104 Sir Ron Priestley 99

SIR DRAGONET (nb) was a beaten odds of favourite at the Curragh last month, but a drop back to ten furlongs and modest early pace certainly didn't do him any favours. I'd rather judge him on the list-topping speed rating of 122 he posted when landing the 12 furlong Chester Vase on the Roodeye in May, and his close up fifth in the Derby at Epsom in June. Racing over an extended 14 furlongs today, and with fast turf not expected to be a problem, I can see this 3yo son of Camelot bouncing back to land this major end of season prize.

Doncaster 4-10 Handicap (Class 2) 8f

 Forbidden Land  85  85  73  62  82  --  --
 Incinerator  84  75  63  84  39  53  55

 Lucander  50  (40)  43  50  --  --  --

LTO Speed: Forbidden Land 85 Incinerator 75 Wild Thunder 67

FORBIDDEN LAND just failed to catch Imperial Empire in a seven furlong handicap at Sandown a fortnight ago, but at least it bodes well for his chances over today's longer trip of one mile. Posting a list-topping speed rating of 85 on that occasion, the gelding has a decent chance of overcoming this two grade hike in class, even more so as underfoot conditions should ride just about perfect. Pencilled in odds of 4-1 must be seen as yet another positive.

Doncaster 4-45 Handicap (Class 2) 8f

 Horse  Best  Lto  2nd  3rd  4th  5th  6th
 So Beloved  110  98  99  110  110  90  105
 Baltic Baron  108  91  107  108  (--)  89  85
 Victory Command  106  97  97  (98)  106  90  67
 Qaysar  105  105  92  93  95  47  (72)
 Bayroot  94  94  71  78  (87)  --  --

LTO Speed: Qaysar 105 So Beloved 98 Victory Command 97

SO BELOVED, with a brace of 110's to his name, could go better than his outsider odds of 14-1 would suggest. On a long losing run going back to 2014 (!), I can see why others in the race are more fancied, but that probably won't stop me from having a few quid on this 9yo son of Dansili.

Doncaster 5-55 Handicap (Class 2) 12f

 Horse  Best  Lto  2nd  3rd  4th  5th  6th
 The Trader  102  (81)  102  65  82  98  96
 Almost Midnight  74  28  64  74  --  (--)  (55)
 Kitaabaat  67  (87)  67  --  --  --  --

LTO Speed: Kitaabaat 87 The Trader 81 Almost Midnight 28

Only three runners line up for this final race of the William Hill St Leger meeting, and of these it has to be THE TRADER for me with his list-dominant speed rating of 102. Not that he is a strong fancy by any means, as this trip of almost a mile and a half is likely to stretch his stamina to the max.
